PENTAGON(AP) - Saddam Hussein has been following legal
developments in his case and those of former members of his regime.
But a US officer who's supervising Saddam's confinement won't say
whether the former Iraqi leader is aware of plans by the Iraqi government to begin trials, perhaps as soon as next week.
Lieutenant Colonel Barry Johnson says Saddam has a regular routine that involves some reading, some gardening and some writing. He says Saddam primarily composes poetry, and that there's no indication the former dictator is penning a memoir.
Johnson says Saddam spends a lot of time in his cell, and he isn't happy about it. Johnson says it's understandable. As he put it, "We have a former dictator who had complete control over all the people in his country who is now inside a cell."
