OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - About 500 Native Americans and their supporters marched on the state Capital on Friday to protest their treatment during 100 years of Oklahoma statehood.

Chanting "No Justice, No Peace" the tribal members say they want to draw attention to the fact that Oklahoma was once their land.

Donna Reiner of the Delaware-Caddo Tribe says the land was taken from Indians in land runs and shows that the federal government violated treaties.

Gary Redeye of the Seneca Tribe says history books don't teach what happened to Indians during the land runs. He says the Native American experience during the early years of statehood is unknown to young tribal members and isn't part of the Centennial celebration underway today in Guthrie.

The marchers also stopped traffic for a short time on Lincoln Boulevard south of the Capital when they stopped in the street before moving on.

Sandy - did you even read what "Sanat Ana" posted here? "Posted by: Santa Ana Location: Texas You people can talk about this event all you want. In a hundred years, Latinos will own the casinoes and the land it is on. And the Anglos will be the ones waiting tables and planting flowers." For crying out loud - you live in Madill!I have spaoke to many ppl who claim they are Indian - and just cannot prove it. Where there's a will - there's a way. Native Americans are Americans, too. I guess it goes without saying - they were here FIRST. As far as being exploited - no one is forced to go into the Casinos. Just like smoking - it's is a choice. You reap what you sew. Midnight Ryder - If Native Americans got their native lands back - it wouldn't be Oklahoma. Anon - AIM is the American Indian Movment.Mork - no tribe put that light in at the Choctaw Casino - Okla Dept of Transportaion did that.History books confirm Indians were wronged. You are wong on all other accounts. karensopinion@gmail.

Spelled it wrong, so what - I got my message across. My family was frightned into NOT signing the roles. I do not have an Indian Card, therefore, I do not use their hospitals, nor do I use their casinos. And Santa Anna was along time ago as well. I'm just proud to be an American in America.

I'm with you Sandy. Why not take that energy and devote it toward the future, something we CAN CHANGE. And, I'm also against the casino's and smoke shops. What a legacy for our children, one industry that exploits the poor, and the other that leads to cancer and emphysema.

So what do the Indians want? What do they hope to accomplish by this demonstration? My great grandfather died from illness he caught while working for the railroad (over 70 years ago) - nobody in my family is raising hell to the Railroad - its the past. What's to be gained here - I really would like to know. Change the hisory books? More compensation from the government? More low cost housing? More free medical? More clothing assistance? More tax free cigarette sales? More traffic lights in the middle of a 4 lane highway? More Casinos? Someone please explain because I'm so ignorant.

Sandy from Madill - you, from MADILL, should take note of what "Santa Ana" had to say. Also - check your spelling - did you mean "bawl-bag". One more thing - if you use any of the Clinics, or Carl Albert Hospital - YOU are also profiting from the Casinos. Not to mention all of the other people (from what ever nationality) working at the casinos. That's my opinion.

You people can talk about this event all you want. In a hundred years, Latinos will own the casinoes and the land it is on. And the Anglos will be the ones waiting tables and planting flowers.

Wow, what a bunch of ball-bags. Crying about something that no one can change. Those people aren't even here to defend themselves. I'm Native American and I'm not proud of the casinos. Next the mobsters and gangsters will be moving in (they're probably already here). A hundred years ago won't matter then. Wake up and take note on what's happening in our world today.
