Sherman kids’ clinic makes move to bigger facility

SHERMAN, Tex. – Friday was moving day for a local clinic, and officials say they'll be able to serve even more children in need.

The Children's Guidance Clinic moved to a larger building. The staff says they needed more room to match their expanding patient list.

This past year, the non-profit, mental health company counseled about 1,600 people. The center helps children and parents deal with issues from domestic violence to drug abuse.

Between 2003 and 2006, staff members say they have seen an increase in unemployment leading to family problems affecting children.

They say on a positive note, more people are aware of the center, leading to a 130% increase over the last three years so they needed room to grow.

"This is not just our building; this is the community's building. What this is going to do for this community, in ways of services for those less fortunate, for those people that are having trials and traumas in their life, for people that can't afford us, we will be there for them," executive director Brenda Hayward says.

Along with the new building comes a new name. The center is now going to be called ‘The Child and Family Guidance Center of Texoma’, where they will open for business on Tuesday.
