11-1-04 - Deputies prevented the burial of a Bryan County man on Saturday, as two sides of his family fight for the right to choose his final resting place. 86-year-old Carl "Sonny" White passed away October 23rd after a long battle with cancer.

He’d been staying with a daughter in Pennsylvania, but after his death, the daughter and other blood relatives began funeral preparations in Bryan County, with his burial planned at the Old Shady Cemetery. But White’s wife, Connie White, disagreed and was granted a restraining order to prevent the burial. That order came despite a previous ruling by a Pennsylvania judge that gave White’s daughter rights as next of kin.

For now, White's body remains at the Angelic Mortuary in Sherman.

A hearing on the matter was scheduled for Monday afternoon in Bryan County but was postponed until later this week.
