11-4-04 - Durant firefighters found an odd sight in a charred mobile home this week – a single glass plate that had survived intense heat without any marks. The plate was a collector’s piece that told a visual story of the life of Jesus Christ.

Patricia Rogers and her 5-year-old grandson were in the home when it caught fire Tuesday morning. When they returned, among the ashes they found the plate. It was where she had left it for 2 years – sitting on the mantle in the living room. Firefighters say that’s the same room where the fire began and likely burned hotter than anywhere else.

The sight was something neither firefighters nor Patricia could explain.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but firefighters say so far it looks like an electrical short.
