Train Wreck Kills Collinsville Man

Video will be available shortly.

12-28-04 – An 81 year old man is dead following a train crash in Collinsville Monday. Amos Penn was killed at the intersection of Highway 377 and Lynch Crossing. According to troopers, Penn was driving west across the tracks when his pickup truck was hit by a southbound Union Pacific train.

Investigators say Penn may have attempted to beat the train across the tracks.

The train, pulling 69 cars and a load of automobiles, was traveling about 50 miles per hour when it struck Penn’s vehicle. It took the conductor more than a half mile to stop after the accident occurred.
