Toy Run in Memory of Chief, Wife

Video will be available shortly.

11-13-04- It has been just over a month since the small town of Marietta lost their beloved police chief, Jim Bob Thompson and his wife Linda in a tragic motorcycle accident, but Saturday, their legacy lives on with a charity ride.

Three years ago, the Thompsons started the annual Marietta Toy Run as a way to gather donations to buy toys for needy children at the holidays. Saturday, their memories helped produce the largest toy run yet.

Almost 300 people turned out to ride motorcycles from the Lake Murray Lodge to the Marietta fairgrounds.

Organizers say the main focus was to raise money, but Jim Bob and Linda were not forgotten. Balloons were released in their memories to signify the start of the run and some people wore patches with the Thompsons names on them.

Organizers will personally deliver those toys raised today to needy children on the week of Christmas.
