11-16-04 - The Ardmore GAPS tax is again in question - this time from other school districts. The half-cent sales tax was passed in November of 2003, with half the proceeds going to the city and the other half being split between the Ardmore and Plainview school districts. But now the Dickson district says they should have been included in the original vote.
School leaders say a portion of their district is within the Ardmore city limits. But leaders of the GAPS tax committee say that state law would prevent Dickson from being included, because the district didn’t have a working school building in the city limits.
The GAPS tax faced turmoil last month when city leaders realized they didn’t publish an election announcement one year ago. The issue will now go before a state judge to determine if the election is valid.
