ARDMORE, Okla. -- A U.S. Congressman stopped by Ardmore today to speak with business and development leaders. Teddy Safo had a chance to speak with him and tells us about his plans to help the city.
U.S. Congressman Tom Cole stopped at the Ardmore Depot to talk about economic development goals for Ardmore’s Main Street and to tell city leaders how his work in congress will affect the city.
Board members from the Ardmore Main Street Authority and several members of the Ardmore Chamber of Commerce talked with Congressman Cole about economic development projects going on in the city, specifically the revitalization of Ardmore’s Historical Main Street, which has been undergoing an extensive facelift over the past several months.
Cole encouraged business leaders to apply for federal grants to continue that revitalization including community block development grants and historic preservation grants.
Business leaders even had a chance to ask Congressman Cole of what’s going on in Washington. Cole says the war in Iraq is one of the top issues.
"Anytime we’re at war, that’s relevant everywhere. The whole Iraq issue is still a very hot issue in Washington…how much, what conditions to fund American forces for next year… that’s front and center right now," Congressman Tom Cole (R), Oklahoma District 4, says.
Congressman Cole says Ardmore’s Main Street project is key for economic growth, and he says he will continue to meet with local leaders to help build on the city's success.
