11-17-04 - A soldier has returned from Iraq to her hometown of Bonham – 10 months after she left her newborn daughter behind. Army Specialist Juana Ventura is the new breed of female soldier – fighting for her country while trying to mother her child from half a world away.

Juana gave birth to Brianna just five months before she left for Iraq. While there, she worked as a fueler, stationed just north of Tikrit. Juana is home for a 15-day leave, and will return to Iraq for several more months. She is with the Army's 1st Infantry Division.

Austin College Commencement Celebration Nearing

Austin College President Marjorie Hass will present diplomas to more than 340 bachelor’s degree candidates and 18 Master of Arts in Teaching degree candidates who will take part in graduation events May 18 and 19 on campus.
