House Fire Threatens Family of Three

Video will be available shortly.

1-31-05 - A Grayson County family escaped a fire early Monday morning with their lives, but little else.

The home of Carlos and Chastity Martinez was completely destroyed when flames broke out in the couple’s bathroom. Chastity says she woke up and discovered their bathroom full of smoke. The couple grabbed their nine month old baby boy and raced outside. It is unclear is smoke detectors were installed and working in the home.

It took firefighters from four local departments twenty minutes to control the flames at the wood-paneled house on Old Southmayd Road.

A Collinsville firefighter was taken to a local hospital by ambulance after sustaining a minor leg injury battling the fire.

The home is considered a total loss. Fire officials will investigate the cause, but preliminary reports indicate an electric heater in the bathroom may be to blame.

The family says their home is insured.
