Tax Hike Proposed in Sherman

02-08-05 – For the third time in eight years, Sherman city leaders will once again attempt to implement a tax hike. The 4-B sales tax is a quarter-cent increase that would create $1.6 million in sales tax revenues in just the first year alone.

The tax would help pay for new soccer fields, a new pool, and renovate the gym at Old Dillingham Intermediate campus into a community center for the elderly.

The same tax has failed three times before, including twice in the past eight years, but some think this time might be different since Sherman is expected to feel a tremendous amount of growth from the arrival of the Tyson Plant.

Right now, Sherman has an 8% sales tax, and is the only Grayson County town without an 8.25% tax.
