A Carter County man accused of killing a Dickson man was in court Thursday. Forty-one year old James Eric Parker was charged with murder in June. Authorities claim Parker shot Danny Watterson in the head while his estranged wife Kimberly Gilbert was sitting just two feet away.

It happened on June 29th of 2006 at Watterson’s home. Investigators say they believe jealously may have been the motive. Authorities say Parker's wife was involved in a love triangle with the two men. Parker is accused of kidnapping Gilbert… and then alluding authorities for 2 weeks before being arrested. Prosecutors say they are seeking the death penalty.

“We have alleged a couple of aggravating circumstances one the murder was committed in such a fashion as to create a great risk of death or bodily injury to more than one person and we believe the defendant is a continuing threat,” said Carter County District Attorney Craig Ladd.

Parker’s trial date is set for January 8th at the Carter County Courthouse.
