ARDMORE, Okla. -- The only person linked to a Carter County woman's death is now free on bond. Authorities arrested Roy Gene Bassett two days after the body of Brandi Baird was discovered in Healdton.

Roy Gene Bassett, 25, posted bond on Monday at around 6 o’clock from the Carter County Jail. Bassett had a late initial hearing Monday. His bond was set at $50,000.

Authorities arrested Bassett last week for the illegal dumping of a body. So far investigators say that 26-year-old Brandi Baird died at Bassett’s residence in Healdton.

Even though investigators have linked Bassett to Baird’s death, no evidence has been found to charge Bassett with more than a felony charge of dumping Baird’s body.

District Attorney Craig Ladd says that’s the reason why his bond was set at $50,000.

"Mr. Bassett made his initial appearance in court yesterday (Monday). He was represented by council. Based on he has an attorney and other factors the judge considered, the bond was set at $50,000," Carter County District Attorney Craig Ladd said.

Ladd also said that full results from autopsy are not due for several weeks.

Bassett’s next court appearance is set for January 22.
