GRAYSON COUNTY, Tex. -- A Sherman landmark for close to 50 years is on the move. The F-86 Sabrejet airplane outside the former home of American Legion Post 29 was taken off its stand and moved to the Perrin Air Force Base Museum.

The 13,000-pound aircraft was at Perrin back in the 1950's and then moved to Sherman shortly after. Officials say they have wanted to bring the aircraft back to the airport and now seemed like the right time.

"These are rare birds and every year there are less and less available for static display. There are some that have been bought and are flying by private owners of course those are made overseas and our 86s made by our government are not for sale," said John Elkins of the Perrin Air Force Base Museum.

The plane will be repaired, and museum officials say it should be back on display within the next year.

I was happy to see the F-86 being moved to Perrin field, where it belongs. I think it would be nice it it could once again, be painted he wayy they were while at Perrin eith ADC or the Perrin "P-patch" on it's tail..The aircraft is in really rough condition, and needs some TLC...

its in a good place now, but it is sad to see it leave, i used to love seeing it there when i was a kid. It was even cooler when it had my dads old panel truck parked under it.
