02-17-05 – The Southern Oklahoma Ambulance Service will now have a medical helicopter at their disposal. The Air-Med Helicopter is expected to help save lives in over sixty missions in its first six months alone.
The chopper will fly to any hospital in Oklahoma and North Texas, holding up to one patient and two nurses. It will cut the transit time in half as well as provide medical attention to remote areas where ambulances cannot travel.
Ambulance and pilot crews will train on Air-Med for a week and a half.
SOSA hopes to have the helicopter in the air by March 1st. It is being paid for with more than $1 million in grant money.
