2-18-05 – The father of 13-month-old Leyha Hughes took the stand Friday in the capital murder trial of Andre Thomas. Brian Hughes never looked at Thomas as he testified about the murders of his girlfriend Laura and her two children.
Fighting back tears, Hughes talked about Andre’s strange behavior and his last memory of Leyha was putting her to bed the night before her murder.
An audio recording from Hughes leaving a message for Laura the morning of the crime was heard in court. He called to warn that Andre was walking towards her apartment.
Laura's father, Paul Boren, also took the stand. He was the first one to find the bodies. He talked of how he treated Andre like his own son.
