2-25-05 - Sherman Police Chief Tom Watt announced that the FBI is investigating one of his police officers. Watt says Lt Todd Smithers was put on paid leave on February 10th, when the criminal and internal investigation began.
Smithers is a 15 year veteran officer who has served as the public information liason, and currently works in internal affairs.
The police chief would not comment on the details of the investigation, other than to say he was notified of it on February 9th, and it is of a criminal nature. Chief Watt stressed that right now the officer has not been found guilty of any crime, and as of now, these are only allegations.
