1-4-05 - First News has learned that Durant is competing with Sherman to land a new Tyson Foods plant. Sherman put together an incentive package for Tyson two months ago, but one month later, Durant submitted a plan – at stake for both cities, some 1,500 jobs.

A representative from Tyson confirmed to First News that they are considering Durant’s offer but they still have interest in reopening the vacant IBP building in Sherman that they already own.

Durant’s incentive deal is similar to Sherman in that it involves state benefits.

Even though Tyson and other sources confirmed this information, Durant economic development officials deny having any contact with Tyson.

No word yet on when Tyson will make a decision.
