Good Samaritan Hit by Car

1-5-04 – A Sherman man is hospitalized after he was injured helping a stranded driver in Marshall County.

53-year-old Terry Berkey was taken to an Ardmore hospital in critical condition. Around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, a pick-up truck driver, pulling a thirty foot trailer got stuck on the west side of US 377. The driver was attempting to make an illegal u-turn.

According to troopers, Berkey stopped to assist the driver. He was outside the vehicle when another car came down the road and hit the trailer, then Berkey.

The driver of the car, a 60 year old Madill woman, sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from Marshall Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the pick-up and trailer is from Flower Mound, Texas and was not injured in the crash.

According to OHP reports, the roadway was slick and there was dense fog in the area at the time of the accident.
