Denison ISD Grades Go On-line

1-7-05 - Beginning Monday, parents of students who attend Denison ISD schools will be a computer click away from tracking student progress through on-line grade and attendance reports.

DISD school officials say a student ID and a pre-assigned PIN number for each student will allow parents and students to view grades and attendance at a link on denisonisd.net. Letters containing ID information and instructions on accessing the internet site should begin arriving in students' homes today.

According to elementary school principals, the letters will be enclosed with today's report cards. High school letters will arrive by mail sometime between now and Monday.

"It's the quickest, easiest access there is," said DISD Superintendent Dr. Henry Scott, who adds that you don't have to be a computer whiz to get there. "All you do is log on to denisonisd.net on the Internet, click on grades and attendance, then enter your student's private ID and PIN number, scroll to the school your student attends and click on it. After that, it's just a matter of deciding whether to view the grades first*or attendance."

Scott is quick to point out that each student's ID and PIN number are available only to the student and his or her parents.

"If the ID or PIN number ends up in the hands of anyone else, it's because the parent or student gave it out," said Scott. "From a school standpoint, the information is secure."

School officials also emphasized that parents should not expect grades to be posted the same day the assignment was completed, or immediately on Monday when the site first becomes available. "Teachers still have to be given ample time to grade student assignments and post the results," said Scott. "Whether it's homework, a special project or a major test, it's time-consuming to accurately and fairly grade each student's work. We urge parents to be both patient and considerate."

The district has scheduled a public meeting for January 11th at 6:30 p.m. at Hyde Park Elementary School for parents who wish to view a step-by-step demonstration showing how to obtain student grades and attendance on-line. The demonstration will be held immediately prior to the District's annual Title I meeting.

"We encourage any and all parents to attend this meeting if they have questions," said Scott. "We'll have personnel on hand that evening to literally walk parents through the process."
