Holding out Hope:Search Expands for Missing Pilot

Video will be available shortly.

1-18-05 - McALESTER, Okla. (AP) The search for a Muskogee physician whose airplane disappeared as he was flying to Oklahoma from Texas continues Tuesday. A spokesman for the Civil Air Patrol says the search has expanded to include most of southeastern Oklahoma.

Seventy-three-year-old Doctor Jack Nolen was last seen leaving the Paris, Texas Friday morning.

Civil Air Patrol spokesman Charles Newcomb says officials are still working under the assumption that Nolen is still alive and that he landed at an airport that doesn't track landings with radar.

Air and ground crews searched the area west of the McAlester Army Ammunition plant in Hughes County this week.

Doctor Nolen was headed for Shawnee.

Nolen was piloting a Kitfox Lite Squared, a small, single-engine, two-seat airplane, Newcomb said.

Nolen disappeared from radar, but that does not necessarily indicate an emergency.

Many rural airports in Oklahoma do not have a communications system or employees who monitor the runway.

If Nolen landed somewhere unexpectedly officials say it is possible no one would know.

Civil Air Patrol spokesman Charles Newcomb says officials are still working under the assumption that Nolen is still alive.
