Prisoner Abuse Sentencing

1-15-05- Army Specialist Charles Graner is not saying he's sorry after receiving a ten-year sentence for abusing Iraqi prisoners. Asked if he felt remorse after the sentence was handed down at Fort Hood, Texas, Graner said -- quote -- "There's a war on. Bad things happen."

Graner is the first person to be court-martialed in connection with the Abu Ghraib prison scandal. He was cast as the leader of a band of rogue guards at the Baghdad prison who physically and sexually mistreated Iraqis.

Graner contended he was only following orders from his superiors
in military intelligence.

Graner will be dishonorably discharged once he completes his
sentence.

His mother says he's -- quote -- "scared to death."
