Double Life Sentence for Child Abuser

1-15-05- A Bryan County jury returned two guilty verdicts Friday night in the case against Harvey Dale Bradford. Bradford is the Colbert man on trial for the rape and physical abuse of an infant girl.

Bradford was found guilty after less than one hour of deliberations of abusing and raping an 11 month old girl who was the daughter of his girlfriend. The jury recommended the maximum punishment of two life terms plus a $10,000 fine.

Bryan County District Attorney Mark Campbell says his office is happy with the jury's verdict. The jury heard evidence that the child was physically and sexually assaulted over a period of several weeks and that she suffered multiple broken bones and other injuries from being sexually violated. Campbell also says that this case was one of the most shocking and brutal cases that his office had ever handled.
