State Justice Remembers King

Video will be available shortly.

1-17-05 – Texas State Supreme Court Justice Dale Wainwright spoke at Austin College on the holiday that marked Dr. Martin Luther King’s 76th birthday. Wainwright was one of the thousands of activists that helped convince congress to establish a national holiday in King’s honor.

Wainwright spoke of the prejudice he encountered in his youth and how the teachings of Dr. King helped change a nation.

He also talked about the differences between political and judicial activism. Noting that political activism can lead to positive changes, but judges that rule based on public opinion can disrupt progress.
