Workers Tested After Anthrax Scare

03-15-05 - WASHINGTON (AP) - Some postal workers in Washington DC, are being given antibiotics as a precaution, after an anthrax scare at two military mail facilities in Virginia.

Washington's mayor says workers at a downtown postal facility are being offered a three-day course of antibiotics as a precaution. The facility has been closed pending a check by environmental crews.

The city's chief medical officer says there has been no report of any illness but this is a "proper first step."

Signs of anthrax have been detected at mail that passed through the Pentagon and another Virginia facility. More tests are being done.

The city swung into action because the mail may have passed through the Washington facility.

Two D-C postal workers died in the 2001 anthrax by mail attacks.
