IVANHOE, Tex. -- This week’s A+ Athlete is Nolan Skidmore from Sam Rayburn High School.

"Not only does he get it done on the floor and on the field, he also gets in done in the classroom." Sam Rayburn HS coach Chad Rumor says.

Nolan is ranked first in his class, has perfect attendance, and scored a 28 on his ACT.

"It’s kind of a family thing. My mom was valedictorian, my sister was valedictorian. I felt like it was my duty to follow suit," Nolan says.

Nolan remains humble on and off the field. For the last two years, he has been named Male Athlete of the Year. A point guard for the Rebels (#34), he was named district most valuable player, first team all-district, and all-region.

"Put your priorities in a line that you want them. You can find a way to get it done," Nolan advises.

It’s not just on the court Nolan excels; it's on the tee box and on the baseball diamond.

Outside of school, Nolan is president of Beta Club, active in his church youth group, and volunteers for the school's yearly basketball camp.

Congratulations to Nolan Skidmore on being named this week’s A+ Athlete.

We'll introduce you to another A+ Athlete every Friday here on First News AM. School officials, coaches, teachers, and counselors are encouraged to send in your nominees.
