MARSHALL COUNTY, OK -- Members of a Marshall County group say they are against the sale of more land to Pointe Vista developers. 'Friends of Texoma State Park' says no more land should be sold until state officials start making an effort to bring tourism back to the county.

While tourism officials have big plans for the area, group members are asking Oklahoma governor Brad Henry to help clean up what's already there before any new construction starts.

‘Friends of Texoma State Park’ say state officials need to get their priorities straight, and before they sell any more land to Pointe Vista, they want to take care of the problems already at hand.

They say the closure of the lodge and cabins has brought tourism in Marshall County to a crawl.

Now they are petitioning Governor Henry and state tourism officials to come up with a plan to clean up the area before tourism season begins in May.

"I support the petition whole hardily," says Becky Grosser, who owns the lighthouse tackle and bait in Kingston. She says the lack of activity at Texoma State Park is hurting her business.

"We just have not had the additional people around we should have our sales have really fallen out."

Grosser fears if state officials don’t take any action, the approaching vacation season could be no vacation. In fact, she worries businesses that depend on tourism could go bust.

"We're the backbone of this whole thing, and if we don’t slow down get something started, the new plan they have won’t take off because there won’t be a Kingston."

At last check tourism officials said they are planning a town meeting with Marshall County residents within the first week of February. That is when petition organizers say they will present their signatures.
