3-25-05 - Thousands of travelers on US 75 got a reminder on Friday of the reason Easter exists. Michael Hempsted carried a ten-foot wooden cross on his back, while wearing a tunic, as he walked down the median.
The SOSU sophomore said he felt the Lord led him to make the 7-mile trek from the Red River north to Platter Flats. He says many people don’t know the true meaning of Easter, and the message that Jesus died to save the world from sin.
He made the trip in less than 3 hours and received plenty of encouragement along the way. Drivers honked, and some tossed bottles of water to him. The 22-year-old says he may make the trip again in the future.
