Hugo Murder Investigation

3-26-05- Hugo police, along with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations, are investigating a drive-by shooting in Hugo that left one man dead. They say this shooting is linked to another drive-by earlier this year.

Just before nine p.m. Friday night, 38 year old Charles Bennett was shot several times with a handgun while he was standing on the front porch of his house on West Sterrett Street. The shooter quickly fled the scene in a 1994 Crown Victoria driven by another man. An OHP trooper stopped that car about an hour later, but the primary suspect was not inside.

Troopers arrested the driver of the car, 21 year old Warren Coleman. He is being held at the Choctaw County Jail, accused of being an accessory to first degree murder.

Authorities are still searching for the man they believe pulled the trigger and killed Charles Bennett. Bennett is the brother of Reginald Mitchell, the victim of another drive-by shooting in Hugo on Janurary 4th.

No arrests were ever made in that crime, but authorities believe the same suspect is responsible for both murders.
