3-30-05 – The Howe Police Department is now outfitted with new laptops for their three patrol cars, thanks to the fundraising efforts of community members. Officers say the laptops allow them to check a driver’s background anytime - day or night.
In the past, Howe police relied solely on dispatchers for the information; which was not always available – allowing some offenders to slip through the cracks.
Van Alstyne, Howe’s neighbor to the south, has been tracking the effects laptops have had on their arrest numbers. Officials say warrant arrests and stolen vehicle recovery went up 50%.
Individuals and local businesses helped raise over $6,000 for the laptops.
