This week’s A+ Athlete is Mary Kate Barnthouse from Plainview High School.

She helped the Plainview track team win state last year competing in several races. She also has a state championship in cross country in 2004. When she's not spiriting for the win, she participates in varsity cheer or teaches new moves at the Dance Center of Ardmore.

Mary Kate is not just a leader on the track; she is someone other students can follow in the classroom. She maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA, belongs to the Oklahoma Honor Society, is a Lead American nominee, and an All-American Scholar.

Not only does she juggle academics and sports, she is also member of the Beta Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is the student council vice president, and volunteers at the soup kitchen. She says her go-getter mentality comes from her parents.

Next year, you might see her at Oklahoam State University, where she plans to go into biomedicine or engineering.

Congratulations to Mary Kate Barnthouse on being named this week’s A+ Athlete.

We'll introduce you to another A+ Athlete every Friday here on First News AM. School officials, coaches, teachers, and counselors are encouraged to send in your nominees.

A+ Athletes….
--must be a senior..
