4-05-05 - NEW YORK (AP) - Peter Jennings says he has some good days and some "really cranky days" coming up. The longtime ABC News anchor has lung cancer and will start outpatient treatment next week.

Jennings told colleagues the diagnosis this morning. He says he'll anchor the news when he feels up to it while undergoing chemotherapy. Charles Gibson and Elizabeth Vargas will be his main
fill-ins.

The 66-year-old Jennings hadn't been feeling well for several months, and was absent during the network's coverage of the pope's death Saturday.

He's been the primary "World News Tonight" anchor since 1983.
