Military Chopper Crashes; 16 Dead

4-05-05 - KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - A U-S military helicopter has crashed into a flat desert in southeastern Afghanistan, killing the four
American crew members and at least 12 other people.

It was the deadliest military crash in Afghanistan since the
start of Operation Enduring Freedom.

An Afghan police official says all the dead, including the four crew, appeared to be American. However, the U-S military provided no details of the passengers' identities. Two more people are listed as missing.

The U-S military suggested severe weather brought down the C-H-47 Chinook near Ghazni city, 80 miles southwest of the capital, Kabul, as it returned from a mission.

Names are being withheld until their next of kin are notified.
