4-8-05 - CANTON, Texas (AP) A parent with a history of confrontations will be arraigned today after allegedly shooting an East Texas high school football coach. The coach was in critical condition last night.
Jeffrey Robertson faces charges after authorities say he shot Canton High coach Gary Kinne in the chest, apparently with a pistol, inside the school field house shortly after classes began yesterday.
Police say Robertson then fled. He was later captured after apparently trying to kill himself by slashing his wrists.
A motive has not been established, but some Canton High students say Robertson's son was banned from all school athletics Wednesday.
Several Canton residents said Robertson had a history of hostile behavior.
Robertson was banned from the school's campus last fall and told not to attend school functions, including football games, after a several confrontations with coaches.
