4-11-05 - A plan by Governor Brad Henry to mandate all Oklahoma schools go to full-day kindergarten classes is causing a stir statewide.
Many local schools already offer full-day classes, but the state mandate means they’d lose federal funding. Right now, the “No Child Left Behind Act” funds some local kindergarten programs. Although state leaders say the lottery would offset those lost funds, not everyone is so sure.
Others say there should not be a state mandate because each school has different needs and shouldn’t be forced into it.
