OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma lawmakers are considering a bill that would change how lakes are tested for blue-green algae.
Senate Bill 259 would amend blue green algae guidelines and testing methods for both non-Corps and Corps-managed lake like Lake Texoma.
Lake Texoma is currently tested by the Army Corps for algae content and by the Grayson County Health Department for toxicity. The Corps has repeatedly advised against water contact since last summer, while the health department says their test results show minimal toxicity levels.
Local legislators Josh Brecheen, Tommy Hardin, and Dustin Roberts have all voiced their support of the bill.
