5-5-05 - WHITE HOUSE (AP) The National Day of Prayer is being observed today at the White House, on Capitol Hill, and at a variety of events nationwide.
In a White House proclamation, President Bush is asking Americans "to give thanks, each according to his or her own faith, for the liberty and blessings we have received and for God's continued guidance and protection."
National Day of Prayer chairman Shirley Dobson says this year's theme is "God shed His grace on thee." She says the definition of grace -- unmerited favor -- is especially meaningful in a time when many Americans have turned away from God.
