HEALDTON, Okla. -- Two months after the death of a carter county woman her family speaks out for the first time. Several questions surrounding the death of Brandi Baird have left her family and investigators still searching for answers.
Who killed their daughter? And why? Those are just two of the questions Brandi Baird's family wants answered after she was found murdered in December. On Monday, they spoke out about her death.
Brandi Baird’s father, Stanley McGuffin and the rest of Baird’s family could barely hold back tears as they spoke about her murder.
"They need to step it up they need to get with the program to do whatever they can to get this resolved,” Brandi’s stepmother Loretta McGuffin says.
“They need to help us find the answers to these questions…” McGuffin said as he fought back tears.
Tuesday will be exactly two months since Baird’s body was discovered behind an oil lease in Healdton. Pictures decorate Baird's grave, showing Brandi's outgoing, caring personality. It’s a painful daily reminder of their loss, and a reminder that her killer is still out there.
"Healdton is a small town. Somebody has to know something if they'll just come forward and help us,” Stanley said.
Mildred Walker, Baird’s grandmother said, “And for some reason they dumped her body. That was uncalled for.”
Several weeks later, Carter County investigators say only two arrests have been made. One of the two men arrested, Roy Gene Bassett, admitted to authorities that he dumped Baird's body, but authorities are saying he isn't the killer and are still looking for the person responsible and for the motive behind a senseless crime.
"We don’t want to see anyone be punished for the crime if they didn’t do it, but we want to see who ever did it we want justice. We appreciate everything that they have done but there can be more," Loretta said.
Investigators are still waiting for autopsy and toxicology reports. They say they hope that will provide some clues as to how Baird died, and most importantly some closure for her family.
