Wednesday and Thursday are Weather Aware days due to the potential for locally heavy rainfall. Beware of flooded road-ways and never drive around barricades or into water more than six inches deep. High rainfall rates may reduce visibility and also increase the risk of hydroplaning. Turn around, don’t drown! Isolated strong thunderstorms may develop late Wednesday afternoon, but widespread severe weather does not appear to be likely at this time.
5-19-05 - Animal lovers are outraged over a criminal case out of northern Collin County. Authorities say a Fannin County man threw a box of kittens into a creek – where they drowned.
Deputies would likely have never known about it if a woman hadn’t witnessed the entire event and recorded the man’s license plate as he drove off. But by the time she reached the creek, the box was out of reach, and sinking. The woman told an officer with the SPCA that she heard the kittens crying as the box submerged.
But her report helped authorities track down Earl Rutledge of Trenton. He was arrested on one charge of felony animal cruelty. If he's found guilty, he could face up to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
