5-9-05 - Dickson High School students will soon have a new kind of test to take. The school board approved a drug-testing plan for all students who take part in extra-curricular activities.
Their unanimous decision means beginning next fall; those students from 9th through 12 grades will be tested at the start of the semester. For the rest of the year, an independent medical company will test those students randomly. If they fail, they will sit out the activity for 30 days or until they pass the drug test, plus they will have to seek counseling.
The tests will cost the school district around $12,000 a year since they opted for the urine test.
