We all get sick once in a while, but how many times have you been left wondering what to do when your child is sick or hurt? Now there is a new online injury and illness advisor. With the click of a mouse, a user-friendly website is available.
With four children, life is always busy for Kathleen Roagche, and there are plenty of bumps and bruises, sprains and strains, and sniffles and fevers along the way.
Roagche will tell you mom doesn't always know what to do -- even when she's married to a doctor.
Now help for Kathleen and many other moms like her is as close as the nearest computer.
The OU Medical Center just launched its new illness and injury advisor--funded in partnership with the Coles Cares for Kids program, the site is available 24 hours a day at :
"Basically it's a triage system that helps you describe your child’s age, symptoms and injuries. You answer a series of steps, a series of questions, and based on the answers to those questions you are given advice about what you should do.”
Dr. Bogie says the truth is although some of the children and adults scene in the emergency room really should be here. Many others have injuries and illnesses that could have been handled at home with a little bit of advice. That's where the illness and injury advisor comes in.
"I think it's helping parents do some home triage. Trying to decide what here at home I can manage here, what I need to call about, and when do I need to proceed to the emergency room.”
A physician and a mom, Dr. Bogie gave the site a test drive herself, and she likes how it handles. She especially likes how it's ready and waiting when you need it whether it’s in the middle of the night, on the weekends, or even holidays.
"I actually got on it myself, figured it out, so its very self-explanatory, very straight forward, and gives good advice.
While it won't make the days any less hectic for moms like Kathleen, the online injury and illness advisor might just make some of life’s little emergencies less stressful.
