5-30-05 - There are nearly as many ways to celebrate Memorial Day as there are cities and towns in the US. Many officials are placing wreaths at cemeteries, of course. But along the Eastern seaboard, some people are dropping wreaths into the water to remember servicemembers lost at sea.
There are thousands of parades, but turnout was lower than
expected at the first National Memorial Day Parade in Washington.
New York City is seeing much larger crowds. The Big Apple has a
number of Memorial Day parades, with Mayor Michael Bloomberg
marching in four of them himself.
The long lines of marching bands and vets struck a chord with one small boy in Wisconsin. The young boy scout says he's grateful for the generosity of those who risked their lives.
