Woman found dead, man arrested for murder in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, TX - Gainesville residents who live on Truelove Street said they can't believe a murder could happen so close to home.

One neighbor, who didn't want to be identified said it's left them with a sense of fear.

"I am shocked and I am sad. Because she was nice and I talked to her and she was a good person. She had a nice sense of humor and she was quiet, but she smiled, she smiled all the time."

Police arrested 30-year-old, Juan Rodrigues Olivas, for the murder of 22-year-old, Linda Marie Barrett on Friday, after getting a call about a body inside a home on Truelove, near South Taylor Street.

Olivas is being held on a $1 million bond at the Cooke County Jail.

"The police were notified by an individual of a possible deceased body in a residents on Truelove street," explained Gainesville Police, Sgt. Bobby Balthrop. "Officers responded to the information, went to the area, and were able to locate a person of interest. Upon further investigation, they did enter the house and did discover a deceased white female."

Barrett's neighbors said police were at a house on Truelove Street for several hours on Friday.

Officers are not releasing information on the details of the crime, because the investigation is on going. But they urge anyone who knows anything about the crime to contact the police department.

"I just feel really, really bad," the neighbor said. "Nobody deserves to get killed or nothing, ya know what I mean?"
