05-25-05 - Two Durant School Board members are boycotting Thursday night's graduation ceremonies at the Choctaw Coliseum. Board president Dr. Greg Clay and member Tom Lackey say the Coliseum site endorses gambling and is an inappropriate spot for the graduation.
The two men sent letters to all graduating seniors explaining why they would be absent and informing them that they will be sending all of them a copy of "It's a Wonderful Life" so they can see the country portrayed in a more innocent time.
Superintendent Dr. Terry James chose the Choctaw site after informal polling of administrators and parents. Durant graduation is traditionally held at the SOSU football stadium, but was moved this year due to renovations.
The other proposed site was the SOSU gymnasium, but the Choctaw Coliseum was selected after concerns about seating capacity.
