6-20-05 – A mother and 3 young boys were ejected from their pick-up around 8:30 PM in Sherman Monday night. The woman was attempting to turn into a convenience store on FM 1417 at US 75 when her 2-year-old son opened the passenger side door. She swerved when she reached for him, ejecting the boy, herself, and 2 18-month-old boys who were sitting in the middle of the front seat. They were then pulled underneath the truck's tires.
The mother and two youngest children were taken to Wilson N. Jones. The children were tranferred to Dallas hospitals overnight. The two-year-old was flown to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas from the scene of the accident. He is in critical, but stable condition.
After the three were ejected, the truck continued into the parking lot and struck three parked vehicles. Nobody else was injured.
Police are investigating how all four people managed to fall out of the pick-up. They found no child safety seats at the scene, and it appears the two children in the middle were not properly restrained. They're considering filing charges.
