6-13-05 – Little League baseball is a springtime tradition for many young athletes in Texoma; and that includes some players that may not normally have the chance to take the field.
Special needs children play ball at Old Settlers Park in Sherman every Saturday night from the first week in April through the middle of June. The team, Audra’s All Stars, play with other little leaguers for a hit-a-round game. It gives special needs children a chance to get off the bench and play with everyone else.
The Sherman Youth Baseball Board of Directors started the team for overall league improvement. In 1995, Paul Martin stopped coaching a Sherman youth team and started guiding the special needs players.
Over the years, the team has grown from just 16 players to 40. Their final game was held Saturday night, everyone left a winner.
If you’d like to sign your child up for Audra’s All Stars, call Coach Martin at (903)433-2374.
