Storms Rock TX, OK

6-13-05 - OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Nearly 12-hundred Oklahoma Gas and Electric customers are still without power this morning after severe thunderstorms moved across Oklahoma yesterday. Tornadoes also touched down in Kent County, Texas.

In Clinton, Oklahoma no injuries are reported, but homes and buildings are damaged, trees uprooted and power lines were blown down.

The strong winds, lightning and heavy rain pounded the state and blew over two tractor-trailer rigs on Interstate 40 near Clinton in western Oklahoma. I-40 was closed for more than five hours before reopening about 10:20 last night.

Those still without power this morning are in the Oklahoma City metro area with more than 700 still in the dark in Oklahoma City, nearly 300 in Norman and almost 200 still without power in Moore. OG&E says crews expect to have power restored today.

Numerous tornadoes were seen swirling about in rural Kent County, Texas Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service reports some of the twisters made brief touchdowns.

There is no word on damages or injuries.
