6-13-05 - A former mayor of Achille, Oklahoma surrendered to authorities in Bryan County Monday - just three days after his alleged accomplice shot a relative and took his own life.
John Wigington had been living in a van and traveling back and forth along the state border since child sex assault charges were filed last week. On Monday, he surrendered with his attorney present. Later, prosecutors arraigned the 58-year-old on charges of rape and forcible sodomy of a minor.
A friend of Wigington, who faced similar charges, shot his step-son last Friday. Kenneth McKinney then turned the shotgun on himself and committed suicide. His step-son is in stable condition.
Both men were accused of sexually abusing four children over the course of several years. Wigington is being held on $100,000 bond.
