06-14-05 – A grain silo in Tom Bean is causing a smelly problem for nearby residents. They say the silo is not properly maintained and is giving off an odor than can be picked up from blocks away.
Several piles of corn lay near the silo, in some spots mixing with water and fermenting.
Dorchester Green owns the silo and has been advised by the city of Tom Bean to check and make sure they are keeping the area clean.
The Texas Commission of Environmental Quality has been contacted by residents and said they will look at the site within the next thirty days.
In August of 2002, the TCEQ said the silo was in need of better housekeeping.
